This archive contains the classification of travel-to-work flows between MSOA in England and Wales based on the 2011 Census. Only flows above 5 were included in the classification. The classification is provided in shapefile format using as projection EPSG:27700 OSGB 1936 / British National Grid. The QGIS project file opens this shapefile, and displays the flows using 90% transparency. The classification is also provided as a csv file allowing the import into other tools for analysing and displaying flow data. Both the Shapefile and the csv-file include the following variables: codres - MSOA code of the residential location or flow origin for travelling out to work. codresx - the longitude of the population-weighted MSOA 2011 centroid codresy - the latitude of the population-weighted MSOA 2011 centroid codwp - MSOA code of the workplace location of flow destination for travelling out to work. codwpx - the longitutde of the population-weighted MSOA 2011 centroid codwpy - the latitude of the population-weighted MSOA 2011 centroid code - a unique combination of residential and workplace MSOA code perstot - number of people travelling to work between residential and workplace MSOA supergroup - One of the nine supergroups of the classification cdsg - cluster distance main group group - One of the fourty groups of the classification cdg - cluster distance sub-group dist_km - distance between population-weighted centroids of MSOA in km rucres - Rural-urban classification 2011 code residential location rucwp - Rural-urban classification 2011 code workplace location These are the codes for the rural-urban classification: Urban: Major Conurbation (A1) Urban: Minor Conurbation (B1) Urban: City and Town (C1) Urban: City and Town in a Sparse Setting (C2) Rural: Town and Fringe (D1) Rural: Town and Fringe in a Sparse Setting (D2) Rural: Village (E1) Rural: Village in a Sparse Setting (E2) Rural: Hamlets and Isolated Dwellings (F1) Rural: Hamlets and Isolated Dwellings in a Sparse Setting (F2) More details about the rural-urban classification can be found at this weblink: https://www.ons.gov.uk/methodology/geography/geographicalproducts/ruralurbanclassifications/2011ruralurbanclassification The data, maps and tables in this report are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License. https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/legalcode
